Assessment of Reliability and Validity of Scales for Evaluating Pediatric Swallowing

Catalog # 890-771-2025| Supervised by: Dr. Nogah Nativ Zeltzer

This work was supported by a grant from Shalem Fund

This study examined the reliability and validity of tools used to assess swallowing in children with Cerebral Palsy. The findings showed that the Penetration–Aspiration Scale (PAS) is reliable for pediatric swallowing assessment, while the Eisenhuber Residue Scale requires further standardization. The EDACS classification showed only limited agreement with instrumental swallowing measures and should not be used alone to assess swallowing safety.

Keywords: Pediatric Dysphagia, Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Study (VFSS), EDACS, PAS, Eisenhuber Residue Scale, Cerebral Palsy.
