People with intellectual disability (ID) are more exposed than people with typical development to pain-inducing events such as falls, illnesses and invasive treatments. Therefore, identifying pain and its intensity is crucial for effective tmanagement. The aim was to translate into Hebrew and Arabic and validate a relatively new pain evaluation tool, which was constructed by an international group of experts. The tool – Pain in Impaired Cognition Scale (PAIC-15) is observation-based and includes 15 items which describe typical pain behaviors, ranked in terms of frequency of occurrence during the observation. The tool was translated into Hebrew and Arabic using a back-and-forth method, was found to be valid and reliable, and showed that people with ID have increased pain behavior compared to controls during acute pain.
